Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 1, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how 3D Labs ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with TipCalc Pro, including the TipCalc Pro iPhone and Apple Watch app, the website located at tipcalc.pro, the TipCalc Pro blog, support communications, and optional or future premium features such as AI-assisted receipt tools (collectively, the "Services").
TipCalc Pro is designed to minimize data collection. Most core app data stays on your device, we do not run third-party advertising on the website or in the app, and we do not build user profiles for advertising. We use limited, consent-based analytics tools on the website (currently Google Analytics and Mixpanel) to understand general usage patterns; these tools are loaded only after you provide consent through our cookie banner. Some limited information is also processed when you visit the website, contact support, use Apple's App Store, enable location-based features, or use optional AI-powered features if and when they are made available.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
We do not require account creation or user registration to use the core app or browse the website. If you contact us by email, however, we receive the information you choose to send us, such as your name, email address, message content, and any attachments or screenshots you include.
2.2 Website and Blog Technical Data
When you visit the website or blog, our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically process standard technical request data needed to deliver and secure the site, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, requested pages, and timestamps. We use this information for site delivery, security, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and abuse prevention.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics and Mixpanel on the website and blog for anonymised, aggregate usage analytics. These tools are loaded only after you provide consent through our cookie banner. With your consent, we also collect anonymised JavaScript error reports through Mixpanel to help us identify and fix bugs on the website; error messages are truncated and contain no personally identifiable information. We do not use third-party advertising technology, tracking pixels, or cross-site profiling tools, and we do not knowingly set advertising or profiling cookies. With your consent, we use session replay as described below for site-improvement purposes only.
With your consent, Mixpanel may also record visual replays of individual browsing sessions on this website, capturing interactions such as clicks, scrolls, page navigation, and text entered into form fields. Session replays are used solely to identify usability issues and improve the site experience. They are not used for advertising, cross-site profiling, or building individual user profiles. You can withdraw consent at any time through the Cookie Preferences link in the footer.
2.3 App Data Stored and Processed on Your Device
The app stores settings and app state locally on your device, including items such as your preferred tip percentage, split settings, tax preferences, theme choices, and similar configuration choices. Manual calculations and most core app functionality are processed locally on your device.
We do not operate user accounts for the app, and we do not send your core calculations or settings to our own servers for storage, advertising, or analytics.
2.4 Camera and Photo Access
TipCalc Pro may request camera access so you can scan a receipt, and it may allow you to choose an existing image from your photo library. These permissions are optional and are used only to let you capture or select receipt images for app functionality.
Depending on the feature, receipt processing may occur locally on your device using Apple system frameworks, or it may involve transmission to third-party AI or model providers as described below if optional AI-powered features are enabled.
2.5 Location Data for Tax Lookup
TipCalc Pro may request access to your device location if you choose to enable automatic tax-rate detection. This feature is optional. If you prefer not to share location with the app, you can deny access and enter a tax rate manually.
We do not store your location on our own servers. However, the app uses Apple location and map services to estimate the relevant tax region, which means Apple may process location or address-related data to fulfill that request under Apple's own terms and privacy practices.
2.6 AI-Powered Receipt Features, Including BillAI
If we make BillAI or other AI-assisted receipt features available, those features may use a combination of on-device models, Apple-provided models, and third-party large language model or AI service providers. These features may be optional, may not be available in every app version, region, or device, and may require a paid in-app purchase or subscription.
When you use those features, the information processed may include receipt images, extracted text, item descriptions, prices, subtotals, taxes, totals, service-charge data, and related prompts or outputs. Some or all of that information may be transmitted off-device to third-party providers for processing, moderation, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, or feature delivery, subject to their applicable terms and our agreements with them.
If you do not want receipt data processed by third-party providers, do not use those optional AI-powered features. Core tip-calculation functionality can still be used without them.
2.7 App Store and Payment Information
TipCalc Pro is distributed through the Apple App Store. Purchases, payment information, App Store account information, subscription billing, refunds, and certain download or transaction records are handled by Apple, not by us. We may receive aggregated or account-level business reporting from Apple, such as sales, subscription status events, refunds, or download totals.
3. How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the website, blog, and app
- To process optional features such as receipt scanning, AI-assisted extraction, and location-based tax-rate estimation
- To authenticate, bill, manage, or support subscriptions or in-app purchases if offered
- To respond to support requests and troubleshoot issues
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and protect the Services
- To analyse general website usage patterns through consent-based analytics tools, in order to improve the site and understand visitor behaviour in aggregate
- To collect anonymised error reports on the website, with your consent, in order to identify and fix bugs
- To comply with legal obligations and protect rights and safety
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, cross-context behavioral advertising, or data brokerage.
4. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell personal information. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We may share limited information in the following circumstances:
- Apple: for App Store distribution, payments, subscriptions, refunds, and Apple platform services such as location, map, camera, photo, and system model functionality
- AI and model providers: if you use optional AI-powered receipt features that transmit data off-device for processing
- Analytics providers: Google Analytics and Mixpanel, to collect anonymised, aggregate website usage data, only after you consent through our cookie banner
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: to deliver and secure the website and blog
- Email and support providers: to send, receive, and retain support communications
- Legal and business transfers: if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset sale
We may also provide de-identified or aggregated business information that does not reasonably identify you.
5. Data Retention and Security
App settings and similar core app data remain on your device until you change them, reset them, or delete the app. Support emails and related correspondence may be retained for as long as needed to respond, maintain records, resolve disputes, and protect the Services. Website and infrastructure logs may be retained for operational, security, and legal reasons consistent with our providers' retention practices. Mixpanel session replay recordings are retained for 30 days.
If we offer AI-powered receipt features, receipt data submitted through those features may be processed transiently or retained for a limited period by third-party providers in accordance with our agreements with them, their service terms, applicable law, safety requirements, and operational needs. We may also retain limited logs or metadata needed to administer subscriptions, investigate misuse, improve reliability, or respond to support issues.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information we control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use a cookie consent banner on the website. If you accept, we load Google Analytics and Mixpanel, which may set cookies or use local storage to collect anonymised usage data. With your consent, Mixpanel may also capture session replays as described in Section 2.2. If you decline, no analytics tools are loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Your consent choice is stored in your browser's local storage. Our hosting or infrastructure providers may still process technical connection information that is necessary to serve pages, defend against abuse, or maintain security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or information about the personal information we control. Because we do not maintain user accounts and most core app data remains on your device, our ability to fulfill requests is generally limited to information we actually hold, such as support correspondence, purchase-related records we receive, and certain infrastructure or feature logs.
You may control app permissions at any time through your device settings. You may also avoid optional AI-powered features entirely. If you delete the app from your device, locally stored app data is removed from the device in accordance with your device and operating system behavior.
You can withdraw your analytics consent at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link in the website footer. This clears your stored consent and re-displays the consent banner so you can choose to decline.
8. California Privacy Notice
If the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended ("CCPA/CPRA"), applies to us, California residents may have rights to know, access, delete, correct, and obtain information about personal information we collect, use, disclose, or retain, subject to exceptions. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. With your consent, we may collect website usage data through analytics tools and session replays as described in Section 2.2. Because most core app data stays on your device and we do not maintain user accounts, many California rights requests will be limited to the data we actually control, such as support correspondence, website logs, and feature or transaction records.
9. International Transfers
We may process or store limited information in countries other than the one where you live, including where our service providers or AI/model providers operate. When required, we take steps designed to provide an appropriate level of protection for transferred personal information.
10. GDPR and Other Legal Bases
Where applicable, we rely on legal bases such as your consent for optional permissions and optional AI-feature usage, performance of a contract to provide requested features or subscriptions, legitimate interests for website security and service operations, and compliance with legal obligations.
Where we use third-party analytics processors, we maintain appropriate data processing agreements. Mixpanel processes website analytics data under a Data Processing Agreement that includes Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers.
11. Data Breach Notification
If we determine that a security incident affecting personal information we control triggers a legal obligation to notify users, regulators, or others, we will provide notice in accordance with applicable law.
12. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Services. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and address the issue.
13. App Store Privacy Disclosures
We intend to keep our App Store privacy disclosures and other platform-required privacy notices accurate and up to date as the Services evolve. If features change, including the launch of optional AI-powered receipt features, we may update those disclosures without waiting for this website to change first.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Services, legal requirements, or our practices. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Services after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means the updated policy will apply going forward.
